The founder of analytical psychology, Carl Gustav Jung, said: "There is no light without shadow and no psychic wholeness without imperfection."
Although the saturation of light and abundance of stimulation for the senses in the summertime might not support our quiet times, spending time in mindful presence might bring an healthy balance to our outwardly directed lives.
When contacting our shadow side, it is important to remember that it contains not just "monsters of darkness" but also "the golden shadow" - everything good that has not found fertile ground for manifestation.
Which behavioral patterns or qualities from others drive me nuts?
Maybe I have noticed those very same patterns in my behavior and I judge them harshly?
Maybe I cannot allow myself to see them in me because they would be "too bad"?
Or, if I take a closer look, it's not so bad - am I just allowing my parents' critical voices to speak?
Which qualities and skills in others have I always admired? Maybe I'd love to do something like that? Maybe I tried when I was younger but hurtful words from somebody destroyed my spirit?
"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." C.G. Jung
