Returning Home

Mathura, Return to Yourself

I am back in Estonia. In a discussion with a friend of mine, I told her that I was flying home. Yet, I have been living in California for years now and it is my home. This made me wonder where is my home and what is my home?
Is a home only a place on planet Earth?
Or – do our connection to people we love create the place that we call home?
Recently I saw and art installation where viewers were invited to respond to a question: “What does “home” mean to you?
The responses were among others: “Knowing self”, “Safety”, “My body”, “Family, comfort, love, warmth”.
Can I be my own home, can I be at home in myself, in my body and being, regardless of my geographical location? And what does it look like?
What do I need to do to reach this state of my being?

Love After Love

The time will come, when with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you.
all your life, whom you have ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
